LLaddoos are sweet & delicious balls made of gram flour (besan), cream of wheat (rava) or coconut. They are made for any happy occasion like birthdays, buying a new car, getting first drivers licence, engagements, parties, passing an exam, , opening of new stores or success in business etc. During Diwali they are piled high like peaks of mountains in sweet shops, to attract customers. At the Diwali festival, Ladoos are specially offered to Lord Ganesha & goddess Lakshmi during Lakshmi Puja .
Rawa Ladoo is made from cream of wheat and powdered sugar that is bound together with melted butter (ghee).
How to make Ladoo
- Dry roast the cream of wheat (rawa) in a frying pan. (2-3 min.)
- Allow to cool & powder in a blender. (2-3 min.)
- Combine crushed cream of wheat (rawa) with powdered sugar in a bowl and mix well (ladoo mix).
- Peel & crush the cardamoms; add to the ladoo mix.
- Chop cashew nuts into small bits.
- Heat 1 tbsp. melted butter & fry the cashew nut bits until golden. (2-3 min.)
- Heat 1 tbsp. melted butter & fry the raisins until they puff up. (2-3 min.)
- Pour on top of the ladoo mix & blend well.
- Heat the rest of melted butter (ghee); blend with the ladoo mix. (1-2 min.)
- Shape into lemon size balls using your palms to roll . (5-6 min.)
- Place on a plate to cool and store in an airtight container.
