Many years ago “Pink Slime” was added to many Fast Food Burgers (discarded beef cuts treated with ammonium hydroxide) which has been stopped after campaigns from celebrity chefs and others. But fast foods are still full of other additives.It feels like ordering from the EMBALMING Menu.
Th International Business Times has compiled an additives list of which five are found on many Fast Food Menus
- AMMONIUM SULFATE: chemical composition simiar to the wash for meat trimmings. Function: enhance dough and encourage more consistent bread. Found in Hamburger Buns.
- AZODICARBONAMIDE: Odorless synthetic plastic used in foam plastics. Function : Flour Bleaching Agent. Found in Buns
- CALCIUM SILICATE: Function: to prevent caking of roof tiles/ bricks/cement. Found in Angus Beef Patties and Seasonings.
- SODIUM ACID PYROPHOSPHATE : a buffering agent. Food Function: improve water holding capacity , maintain color and stability during heating. Found in Chicken Nuggets, Chicken Fillets, Hash Browns, Griddle Cakes and Cookies.
- PROPYLENE GLYCOL: less toxic version of ethylene glycol (antifreeze). Food Function : prevent products from becoming too solid. Found in Sauces, Glazes, Bagels and Hotcakes.
